City Meets Sea: Nautica Repositioned

As you all know, I am obsessed by all things nautical. It is no surprise, therefore, that my wardrobe is brimming with breton stripes, navy, grey and white clothes, anchor motifs, sailboat prints, espadrilles and just about anything that calls to mind the sea and sandy beaches. In a way, sporting the nautical trend in my wardrobe is an expression of my constant wanderlust, a desire to be on vacation ever so often.

Imagine my delight when Nautica, one of my preferred brands for my nautical staples, decided to launch its new collection as a sort of repositioning exercise. Sporting the tagline City Meets Sea, Nautica’s latest collection is, as the tagline suggests, a heady blend of urban chic with nautical vibes. It’s all about translating the nautical/beach trend into daily, urban streetwear.

For the launch event of this collection, Nautica partnered with Bollywood actor Rahul Khanna (whose style quotient always gets a big thumbs up from us at UrbanEye) to dissect the collection and to style a few looks himself. I asked Rahul to share his thoughts on the City Meets Sea collection and here’s what he had to say, “The repositioned Nautica collection is about going from a sporty atmosphere to a more urban one. An example, many times, you are at the beach in a pair of shorts and there’s that slight nip in the air. It’s nice to have something light to throw on.”

In that very same vein, I got my hands on a few of the pieces from the new collection and here’s how I interpreted it.

The centre of this look is this super simple striped tee — which I could totally picture myself wearing on the beach — worn over slim-fit chinos.
But since I was after a more “city slicker” look, I threw on a light jumper with a zipper at the front. While the jumper is resolutely sporty, the chinos tone down the look altogether. dsc_7940

For footwear, I chose this pair of blue and white canvas sneakers, which complement the look perfectly.

Before I end, a quick throwback to my City Meets Sea Nautica outfit for the launch event with Rahul Khanna.

And a picture of my new shoes. As much as I loved wearing my new sneakers, I recently visited Asia’s most exclusive and expensive resort, Soneva Kiri, where the concept is ‘barefoot luxury’, which required me to ditch my footwear and enjoy nature in its purest form.
