This was my favourite piece in the collection. I loved the bronze gold stars embossed into the tee.

Collection Review: RS by Rocky Star for Shoppers Stop

“I’d like to make luxury and designer wear accessible to everybody”, designer Rocky S tells me, as I walk through his brand new collection, RS by Rocky Star, part of an exclusive collaboration with Shoppers Stop. RS by Rocky Star is a rather exhaustive capsule collection for both men and women, but we at UrbanEye were there to check out the menswear, of course.
As I walked through the collection of teeshirts, belts, wallets and deodorants, Rocky S tells me “I’ve designed it to be young funky, stuff than can be effortlessly used by day and by night. In terms of fabrics, I’ve kept it easy, practical and casual — breathable fabrics, single jerseys and viscose materials. As for the teeshirts, while I have a few classic tees, I have infused a sense of glam-rock-chic into others, through vibrant, funky prints.”

Rocky S also happens to be the first Indian designer to launch a collection of underwear, which is, of course, part of the RS by Rocky Star collection.

Here’s a look at some of the stuff that I saw, with my opinion on them.

Basic tees with a bit of a slogan or a print. Trendy casual wear options.

In addition to the understated tees, I also found some pretty cool glam-rock tees, with some funky patterns. Perfect party wear.

The star seems to be a leitmotif of Rocky S's collection, and understandably so, it's called Rocky Star. They find their way onto teeshirts in the form of gold prints and embossed metallic elements.

Leather wallets from this collection tended to be rather subtle, in shades of brown and black.

The collection also features a range of Rocky Star deodorants, with interesting names like Comet, Star Dust, Shooting Star and Stargazer. I don’t say this about many fragrances, and less so about spray-ons, but I really like how these deodorant perfumes smell.

The #GroomingGuru’s verdict: I liked what was on display. I appreciate the fact that there is an interesting mix of funky chic and more classic, wearable stuff. The designer, who has always been associated with a glamorous, nightlife-inspired style, seems to be wanting to change the way Indian men dress at nightclubs, which translates to the casual chic allure of this collection. I would personally, opt for pieces with less of the overt designer branding, but  The designer promises shirts, blazers and trousers, I’m curious to see what they’d look like. Most importantly, I like the fact that the designer is collaborating with the country’s leading fashion retailer to make luxury more accessible.

RS by Rocky Star will be exclusively available across select Shoppers Stop stores in the country as well as on www.shoppersstop.com
