In the past few months, I have warmed up considerably to the idea of wearing prints. I have slowly moved away from my usual wardrobe stable of solids and checks and have begun to embrace prints.
That said, I think I might just have discovered India’s coolest collection of printed shirts — True Blue by Sachin Tendulkar.
When the cricket icon recently announced that he would be launching a fashion collection, in collaboration with retail giant, Arvind Limited, I must confess that I had my reservations. I was not quite convinced if Tendulkar would be able to translate the WOW factor from the field to fashion. But, as I discovered, True Blue’s collection pleasantly surprised me.
To start with, the collection wears its Indian identity on its sleeve. Indian motifs and silhouettes lie at the very heart of this collection, which features a range of shirts, polos, kurtas, bandis, jeans and trousers. If you look closely at the collection, its Indian identity is very evident – the textures and fabrics used are earthy and chic. Motifs line pockets, sleeves and inner collars. And most importantly, what I loved most are the printed linen shirts.
Sachin Tendulkar’s True Blue gets a big thumbs up from me.
I stepped into their store recently and picked up a few pieces, that I wore during my recent vacation to Colombo, Sri Lanka. The city of Colombo, with its colonial identity, lends itself perfectly to some of these gorgeous printed shirts. Here’s how I wore them.
I absolutely LOVE this polo, with a subtle Mughal-Inspired inner collar.
Paired with simple beige cotton trousers and a chic pair of Cole Haan lace-ups, I was all set to head to Independence Arcade, Colombo, to interact with some of the city’s start-up designers and stylists.
That evening, I had some free time so slipped into something more casual and easy. I chose this gorgeous printed linen shirt, paired with shorts and a pair of Steve Madden soft lace-ups. The perfect attire to discover the colonial homes of Cinnamon Gardens.
The next day, for my morning dose of shopping and strolling, I replicated the previous evening’s look, with another darker, printed shirt.
That afternoon, I had to lose the shorts and get dressed up a bit, to interview some luxury entrepreneurs in Colombo. That said, I did not want to overdo it, after all, it was still vacation time for me. This simple and gorgeous beige-cream textured shirt was my garment of choice, with slim trousers and sandals.
I’ve taken a few close-up shorts of this particular shirt just to show you how gorgeous it is and how awesome it feels.
If you ask me to pick one favourite piece from the collection, it would have to be this one.
There you have it. A detailed breakdown and analysis of Sachin Tendulkar’s True Blue collection.
As I said earlier, this gets my vote for best prints in a high-street brand this season.
Till next time… stay stylish!
