When the house of Tommy Hilfiger approached me with the big news that they would be releasing an India-exclusive creation, I couldn’t help but be excited to be part of this project. After all, it is not everyday that a top American designer, known for his unmistakable preppy style releases a signature creation, which is so explicitly Indian. The big news I am referring to here is the limited edition, India-specific bandi, released by Tommy Hilfiger to celebrate the brand’s tenth anniversary in the country.
The suede bandis — known popularly as the Nehru jacket — is the sleeveless cousin of the ubiquitous bandhgala and has been released in two colours, classic navy blue and an exquisite shade of camel. While the bandi is a perfect symbol of Indian tailoring, Tommy’s limited edition bandis retain the brand’s preppy aesthetic.
We all know how to sport a bandi in a regular Indian ensemble. But, interestingly enough, I was asked to put together a bunch of looks to bring together the Tommy Hilfiger American preppy style with the Indian influence of a bandi. The challenge was interesting and the results, well, we’ll let you be the judge of it.
I tried to keep the looks as simple and do-able as possible, so you guys out there, can carry out these experiments with style by yourself, without having to commit any fashion faux pas.
Our readers will be happy to know that we at Urban Eye are the FIRST in the country to get our hands on the limited edition Tommy Hilfiger bandi, before its release.
