Fashion Meets Fast Cars: A Look At Gant Le Mans Collection

Most of you are aware that I will not endorse a brand unless I identify with and wear it myself. Gant is one such brand. I have been a loyal customer at Gant for almost a decade now, never failing to stock up on my seasonal ginghams and polos. Anyway, imagine my delight when Gant recently announced a pretty awesome partnership with the iconic French car race in Le Mans – Les 24 Heures du Mans.

A capsule collection blending Gant’s understated elegance with a love for cars. No points for guessing why I instantly took to the collection – it brings together two of my favourite things: cars and clothes.

What it’s All About
In case you aren’t already familiar with the race, Les 24 Heures du Mans is held annually and has attained cult status in the town of Le Mans. While Le Mans’ Formula 1 history began way back in 1906, it was only in 1922 that the idea of having a 24 hour race came about. Ever since, the 24-hour race in Le Mans has attracted celebrities and car lovers as it is the perfect symbol of French joie de vivre and is a celebration of the good things in life. From Paul Newman’s little stint in a Porsche to Pink Floyd and Patrick Dempsey’s appearance at Le Mans, the race has become a symbol of glamour and sophistication.
How, then, does Gant fit in? Well, for one, there is a strong element of heritage. Gant, established in 1949, splashes its heritage of sophistication and American elegance on its sleeve (quite literally). It seems like a logical fit that these two entities should collaborate.
What’s the collection like?
I absolutely LOVED the collection. Motifs from the racing world are delightfully splashed on shirts, polos. I picked two pieces from the collection – a gorgeous white polo with a running race driver mini motif splashed across the tee. I love how the “Gant 23 Heures du Mans” is discreetly embroidered on the sleeve.

The second piece, and this one for me is the standout piece of the collection, is a gorgeous cotton oxford shirt embellished with vintage patches, one saying “49” for the year in which Gant was founded, and some Le Mans logos too. I must not forget to mention that the shirt feature’s Gant’s famous “locker loop” down the back along the back box pleat.

I have deliberately not over styled the looks as Gant, for me, represents effortless, easy sophistication – embodied by drivers of luxury cars around the world. Guys who don’t really have to work too hard to prove they like the fine things of life!
Driving Around Goa
What better place to sport Gant’s auto-inspired collection that at an outstation drive. I was in Goa recently to test drive Jeep’s new Compass as I explored south Goa. My itinerary included a mix of local Goan villages and a trip to the deep south, where I explored the natural reserves and sanctuaries. I did manage to stop at some green spots, and even in front of a gorgeous old Portuguese church in Margao, so I’m sharing some of those pictures.
My verdict is completely in favour of Gant’s collaborative collection with Les 24 Heures du Mans. It’s just perfect! I can’t wait to see what one of my favourite premium brands has in store for us in the next few seasons…
