For those of you wondering what the Gourmet Passport app is, and if it’s just another food or restaurant app, here’s a quick breakdown of all the facts you need to know.
The Gourmet Passport is an extremely interesting — and value-for-money — initiative started by Rocky Mohan, (who also happens to be the legendary producer of Old Monk Rum, in case you didn’t know). It was launched last April in Delhi and following major success, Rocky decided to make it available to us in Mumbai too.
Here’s how it works:
1. Download the app
2. It costs INR 999 for a yearly membership. Once you’ve done this, all you need to do is pick your restaurant and once you’re there, avail of the offer. This deal is valid for one full year.
3. Following this, you get a Buy 1 Get 1 Free offer, which can be availed at over 50 top-rated restaurants in the city, including five star hotels. The Gourmet Passport proposition is the ultimate value add – Buy 1 Get 1 Free, which can be availed at over 50 top-rated restaurants in the city, including five star hotels. Some of their partner brands include – Sofitel, ITC Grand, Mamagoto, The Fatty Bao, The Leela Mumbai, Trident, The Lalit, Four Seasons, Indigo Delicatessen, Olive Bar and Kitchen, etc. And be sure to see this list grow more and more as Rocky adds that there’s a waiting list with about 46 restaurants just queuing up to be part of this awesome initiative.
4. The Buy 1 Get 1 Free Offer works only on main course and buffet. So you buy a main course, and you get one free, no strings attached. And the same goes for a buffet.
Rocky Mohan shares his thoughts with us. “We are looking for something that gives us that extra mileage when we dine out. Culturally, we are built to be price-conscious, even the luxury diner, and as long as we don’t have to flash a discount coupon. Here, our users can very discreetly put their phones on the side and get a server to come and enter a 4 digit code and get the job done. It adds so much panache, that we become stylish in the way we do it and then suddenly we becomes a talking point on our table or we invite people and say ‘we’ve got the passport, come let me sort this out’.
Mohan proudly tells me how the idea of this App came about, “The idea came about due to the confusion in the number of discounts that are available. If you’re a Citibank card holder you get this and that, if you’ve got another card, you get something else, so to remove the clutter, there’s a single offer we have which is Buy 1 get 1 free, no fine print. It’s simple, a no brainer and it only works on main course and buffets. We also have a happy hour concept, where you get cocktails. So it’s combinations of these very simple modules that have really made it successful in Delhi. You can also watch your saving grow on the app, as the saving amount is displayed on the top of your screen.”
For now, Rocky Mohan and his team are concentrating strongly on word of mouth and social media to promote the Gourmet Passport!
