After the unveiling of the Jeep Compass back in April of this year

Jeep invited me to an exclusive first-hand driving experience of their latest offering here in Goa.
The design & styling may remind you of its elder premium sibling – The Grand Cherokee which it is inspired from. Therefore, just like the exterior its cabin too mirrors the Grand Cherokee in terms of styling, sporting a dual-tone finish & premium materials.
Techwise, it gets a 7-inch infotainment display with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, keyless entry with passive go, capless fuel system & power tailgate. It will also get 70 safety and security provisions including adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist etc.
The Jeep Compass will come with the Jeep brand’s famous four-wheel drive capability called as Jeep Active Drive, which is equipped with Selec Terrain Traction Management System. With driving modes such as Snow, Sand and Mud (with the default being Auto) they engage the 4×4 lock and adjust engine, throttle and steering settings.
The cabin does feel very roomy as well as chic & luxurious thanks to the premium alpine leather seating (Ski-Grey McKinley leather upholstery with ruby red stitching), soft feel dashboard, the metallic gear knob and many other fine touches.
The rear seats have plenty of legroom as well as headroom and great thigh support – above all, the area below the rear a/c vent sports a welcome usb port!
Jeep’s iconic seven slat grille has been reimagined in the new Compass.
A sleek, aerodynamic profile blends athletic styling with sweeping curves to create a look that is as confident on the trail as it is on the street.
Interesting titbit from the second day of my drive experience in Goa. We were driving from our hotel on Arossim Beach through the Natravali Wildlife Sanctuary to Dot Goa 4×4 Offroading Area for my offroad experience and were stopped by the Goa Traffic police. After a quick check of the papers, they were extremely keen and inquisitive about the vehicle, its specs, price, features and other miscellaneous info about it. A large number of them actually got down to clicking photos of the SUV as well as selfies with car – now that’s not something that happens to me everyday 🙂
Just goes to show the appeal of the Compass’ unique looks, its road presence and aura.
It handled any & everything thrown at it with elan. Be it muddy and marshy patches, rocky outcrops, tricky roads or the open highway – the Compass’ compass needle always stayed in its element delivering a ride quality that was nothing short of sublime!
The Jeep Compass is manufactured at Ranjangaon (near Pune) at a facility co owned by Tata Motors Ltd and Fiat India, the local #MadeInIndia production is the core reason for its competitive price which is expected to be in the Rs. 18 – 25 Lakh range.
The Jeep Compass comes with two engine options – a 2.0-litre 172hp 350Nm diesel and a 1.4-litre multi-air turbo-petrol.
The Compass will also be one of the safest SUVs of this size on Indian roads as it comes with over 50+ safety and security features.
Customers have the luxury of having safety features such as Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Dynamic Steering Torque (DST), Hill Start Assist (HSA), Adaptive Brake Lights, Panic Brake Assist and many more such features as standard across the range. The Compass will also be equipped with six airbags with dual stage passenger airbags.
This Made-in-India Jeep Compass is being manufactured in 50 different trim, powertrain, transmission and colour combinations so Indian customers have an absolutely extensive range of options to choose from.
