Designer Manish Malhotra, in association with the Mijwan Welfare Society, presented his latest collection “Mijwan Summer 2017”, last night. This collection featured the elegant embroidery technique of Chikankari with more than 50 garments made in 10 days by Manish.
In the 17th-century courts of the Nawabs, the art of Chikankari originated and till today remains desirable due to its unique and refined nature. Manish completes six years of his journey with the Mijwan Welfare Society (MWS) this year, and initiative which is named after a local village in Uttar Pradesh. This NGO is one close to the designer’s heart as its objectives include reviving the craft of Chikan embroidery as well as empowering local women.
As Manish never fails to create effortless beauty in his designs, this collection features the renewing of vintage charm of a bygone era through a design story of sequins, tassels, fringes, cold-shoulders and off-shoulder styles. This Mijwan range offers elaborately detailed jackets, dresses, saris with embroidered blouses, crop tops and opulent skirts along with flowing gowns.
Not forgetting the men, Manish created an enchanting fusion of urban and tradition showcasing well tailored and embroidered kurta-salwars, bandhgalas, kurta-bandis along with drape and layer kurtas in pastel hues. This collection is complete with light, breezy silhouettes and subtle nuances of woven elegance, and a colour palette which consists of muted shades of white, grey, beige, lilac, aqua and baby pink.
The glorious show culminated with none other than showstoppers Anushka Sharma, and the King of Bollywood, Shahrukh Khan. Anushka looking stunning in an ivory & beige embroidered lehenga and crop blouse, whilst King Khan looked dapper in an embroidered sherwani.
