There are a few mens accessories that every city slicker worth his salt absolutely must have. The city boy’s must-haves, quite literally! Of course, there are cars, bikes, computers and gizmos that need to be procured but we’ll save that for another time. I’m here to discuss style. And I am always on the lookout for good style.
Just like every woman needs to own a little black dress, every dapper gent needs to lay claim to at least one good watch. For a man, nothing says style like what’s worn on your wrist.
Shoes maketh a man, in my world, which is why I nominate it as a men’s wardrobe essential. A good quality leather belt is always a good idea. You might think people aren’t staring at your pants, but they are. So belt up, boys! And finally, one signature gizmo that best defines your personality. It could be your iPad, your Bluetooth headphones, a MacBook Air or, in this case, a camera.
For this month’s style pick, I peeked into my buddy Gaurav Bhogale’s wardrobe. This super stylish marketing professional — a fellow menswear blogger — is from Mumbai but works in Sydney, Australia. Here’s what I picked from his wardrobe.
The Gucci Horsebit loafers are my favourites — along with Tod’s of course — and their Made in Italy stamp of quality is instantly visible in the quality of leather, the seamless stitching and the sheer comfort. Loafers are a must-have because of their versatility! You can literally wear them with ANYTHING: trousers, chinos, jeans, shorts, even an Indian churidar.
The belt by Salvatore Ferragamo, instantly recognisable by its buckle. Gaurav confessed that though he liked Hermès belts, he probably wouldn’t sport one as the H logo on the buckle was too loud. The idea is to keep your belt buckle simple and classy, always.
This camera really needs no introduction. It is the classic Leica M8 with a 35mm f/2.0 Leica Summicron lens. This handmade camera is the epitome of German engineering and has been the camera of choice for the leading photojournalists of this century.
And since we love our watches, and it’s Audemars Piguet, I decided to give it a separate photograph all to itself.
So there you have it, our mens accessories blog post. Hope you enjoyed it, guys!
