Qatar Airways was officially inducted into the OneWorld global airline alliance at a grand event held at its Doha base earlier this week. The only one of the ‘Big Three’ Middle Eastern carriers (the other two being Emirates and Etihad) to be included in a global airline Alliance, Qatar Airways stands to benefit immensely from this collaboration. Strengthening the network, offering seamless travel to passengers across the globe and consolidating a market share though this alliance, Qatar Airways joins an elite bunch of 13 premium legacy and new world carriers (British Airways, Qantas, JAL, American Airlines, Malaysian and Cathay Pacific among others).
Qatar was named Airline of the Year by the Skytrax survey in 2011 and 2012, and is runner up for 2013. It currently operates a fleet of 130 aircraft to 130 destinations across the globe. It has now become synonymous with great service, luxury travel experiences and utmost passenger comfort. What’s more…they’ve recently acquired the Boeing 787 Dreamliner.
With Qatar’s entry into OneWorld, members of the airlines frequent flier programme, Privilege Club, can now enjoy the very same privileges when they fly with any OneWorld member airline. Frequent fliers beyond a certain tier will be able to access 550 airport lounges worldwide, offered by any of the member airlines.
Congratulations Qatar Airways! I can’t wait for my next flight.
