Exploring Hong Kong’s Stanley Market has been the highlight of my month. In all my years travelling to Hong Kong, I’ve grown accustomed to its different, buzzing neighbourhoods. From Central’s precarious slopes to Kowloon’s throngs, Hong Kong is a city that welcomes any traveller to its fold, quite effortlessly. Over the years, my local friends recommended Stanley Market, but somehow this is one neighbourhood that I always ended up missing. This time, during my recent trip to Hong Kong, and on the insistence of my friend, we drove down to Stanley and Repulse Bay, picturesque neighbourhoods about 20 minutes’ drive from Central Hong Kong.
The waterfront area around Stanley Market is dotted with beautiful restaurants, cafes, bars and boutiques. What I most appreciated in the Stanley area, however, were the beautiful nooks and crannies, with stunning walls and wall art. Gorgeous art deco homes with brightly coloured walls and narrow alleys with graffiti and art installations. Further on, the actual market is a delightful labyrinth of shops selling all sorts of touristy stuff and local souvenirs.
For my little afternoon of street discovery, I decided to make a statement of my own.
I picked out a few pieces from the Spring-Summer 2017 collection of United Colors of Benetton. My colour pick – white.
Benetton’s denim expressions have always been strong and I am happy to have found a pair of superbly fitting white denims, which paired with white sneakers to keep up with the ongoing trend. The denims I chose were soft and stretchy and I could well see myself living in them.
While choosing a top, I had endless options to go with white denims. I thought I’d choose… white! BUT, with just a splash of colour. So I chose this gorgeous knit cotton white tee, with a block of colour to create the look. (A bit like the French approach to style – black and white, with just a splash of colour, is the most elegant expression ever).
Thanks for reading, guys!
