As soon as the first models began to emerge at Shantanu & Nikhil’s collection ‘The Tourist’ at Lakme Fashion Week 2013, the approval and appreciation from the audience was almost palpable. All I could think of was the word DAPPER…and I tweeted something to that effect.
The dapper duo, yes I use the word loosely where these designers are concerned, once again impressed us with their delightful use of colours, unmistakable tailoring and a beautiful sartorial elegance that the duo is known for.
Keeping the fascination for travel in mind, Shantanu & Nikhil instantly made us want to pack our bags and fly off to some exotic destination. The feel-good collection that resulted was nothing short of chic, stylish and zesty.
What I loved most about the collection, and I am sure many will agree with me, were the colours—grey, navy blue, yellow and pink dominated the ramp.
The garments were easy to wear with fabrics like cotton chambray, satin, twill, linen, lycra and silk.
The men sported beautiful jackets (some paired with shorts), monogrammed blazers to add the American preppie chic element, and superbly pleasing dot motifs on some of the suits. I also loved the bowties used across the collection. This is one accessory that could do with a revival and we’re happy to see it appear so confidently on the ramp.
The women wore pencil skirts, dresses, jersey blouses and beautiful draped dresses, a simple will-power sheath and some jumpsuits.
The show closed on a simple but glam note with Bipasha Basu in a stunning black knit gown with interesting kimono sleeves.
I absolutely loved the carry-all totes that some of the male models sported complementing the airport feel so perfectly. If Shantanu & Nikhil’s collection is anything to go by, dressing simple, comfy but stylish for a flight has never been easier. Thumbs up is my verdict!
