I’ve travelled to many beach destinations around the world but I have to say that none of them have fascinated and appealed to me as much as the island of Mauritius. Situated strategically off the coast of Africa, and in the Indian Ocean, the island enjoys a curious blend of Franco-Afro-Indian culture. This tiny island, with a truly unique identity and culture, has become a luxury hub of sorts, with leading international hotel chains going all out to woo and wow their well-heeled customers.
UrbanEye was invited by Le Touessrok Hotel in Mauritius to check out some of their luxurious accommodations and this private villa makes it to my ‘Ultimate Splurge’ section. For those of you who are not aware, Le Touessrok is one of Mauritius’ most iconic hotels and probably the most expensive, welcoming Hollywood celebrities and international royalty on a regular basis. The hotel is situated in a quiet corner of Mauritius, houses the spectacular Givenchy Spa and has a private golf course (considered to be the best on the island). What’s more, a short boat-ride away is a private island belonging to the hotel and ONLY for hotel guests. Now all your dreams of being on a secluded private island can come true.Le Touessrok Mauritius is one of the island’s most iconic resorts
Anyway, getting back to the ultimate splurge –Le Touessrok has three private villas, which are uber exclusive and secluded from the rest of the resort. So much so that if its residents invite you to dinner at one of the villas, you need to take a tiny golf cart through secluded wooded trails that finally lead you to the doorstep.
Inside the villas, luxury abounds. Absolute extravagance is ensured. The spacious 4650 sq ft villas have three spacious bedrooms, which lead out to private gardens, decorated with outdoor waterfall showers and dotted with daybeds. Each bathroom has stone bathtubs.
Unlike the overly extravagant décor of its European counterparts, this Mauritian villa has a wonderful tropical-inspired décor. The interiors have cool, contemporary interpretations of Mauritian style, with a distinct French flavour. The massive living room, with its high vaulted ceilings, is tastefully done and also has a large dining table where guests can host a sit-down dinner. The living room leads out to the private infinity pool and a thatched pavilion, a more informal setting for a meal or just for a cup of coffee from the Nespresso machines (ten points to any hotel that thinks of this, my favourite part) placed in the villa. Almost every part of the villa offers spectacular views of the Indian Ocean.
When you’re paying that kind of money, you can be assured that you will have only the best. Know that your villa comes with its own private chef, a team of staff and, of course, villa manager who will ensure that your house is run exactly as you please.
By now, I am sure all of you are wondering if this ultimate splurge will burn the ultimate hole in your pocket. Trust me it will! Le Touessrok’s private villas cost a whopping 9 lakh rupees per night…
On that luxurious note, I leave you dreaming of the pure shores of Mauritius.
