Quest for Luxury in Queensland: Day 1 | Palm Cove Cairns

I spent my first day in Queensland in Palm Cove Cairns, which is a sleepy little village, if that’s what we’re calling it, just north of Cairns. Palm Cove Cairns is a stunning suburb that is characterised by its esplanade, a gorgeous beach overlooking the mountains in the distance.

The esplanade is lined with hotels and resorts, along with buzzing cafes and restaurants.

After I checked in to the Peppers Beach Club & Spa, Palm Cove, as much as I loved the hotel and it’s swimming pool, I was tempted by the idea of taking a walk down the esplanade. I had breakfast at this gorgeous café called Nunu’s. (I highly recommend if, it you are in the neighbourhood). Their service is brilliant and the food, even better than brilliant.

Here are a few snapshots from Palm Cove Cairns. If you’re looking for a quiet getaway, far from the tourist rush in Cairns, then Palm Cove is the place for you. Relaxed, discreet and picturesque. Who could ask for anything more?

Later that evening, as I caught up with the hotel’s super friendly GM Chris Northam, he highlighted something interesting. The Peppers Beach Club & Spa, Palm Cove, was strongly focussing on its culinary offering. Which is why the hotel’s German executive chef, Thomas Ege, has been cooking up his blend of modern Australian cuisine with much gusto. Thomas, who also joined us for a short while, gave me a few must-try recommendations before signing off for the day.

Here’s what I tried
Ginger Tempura Bugs with lime dip and market salad (In case you were wondering, I wasn’t eating actual bugs. Bugs is a name given to a type of prawn here in Australia)

After a long but wonderful day at Palm Cove Cairns, I went to bed excited about what the next day would have in store for me… Stay tuned… I hear hot air ballooning is on the cards!
